Travis + Stephanie = Travanie
We’re an adventure loving couple from the Midwest and we help outdoor and adventure enthusiasts find unique and amazing ways to experience the world through travel.
On Travanie Travels, we share our outdoor and adventure travel experiences and write detailed destination and educational guides to help advise and empower others to get outside and enjoy the world beyond their comfort zone.
We believe that the beauty in travel lies just beyond the well-trodden tourist path and always focus on having new and unique experiences centered around nature, culture, and adventure.
Some of our most popular posts include our road trip through Glacier and Banff National Parks, our reflections after spending three days in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, our story of fishing with locals in Laos, and our guides for section hiking parts of the Appalachian Trail. About Us
We are high school sweethearts with a passion for travel, adventure and the great outdoors. We live active lifestyles and love camping, hiking, climbing, mountain biking and anything that lets us get outside. Starting to travel as college students and now as working adults with student debt, we have always had a limited income. However, by strategically managing our money and focusing on our goals we have found a way to tailor our adventures to fit our tight budget without sacrificing our passions or experiences.
We live simply, prioritize our time, and focus on our travel goals. We often wander off the beaten path, seek out unique experiences, and choose to sacrifice everyday comforts for opportunities to grow, learn, and explore. Some of our favorite things include trying new foods, hiking for incredible views, connecting with others, and pushing ourselves outside our comfort zones.
Our goal is to inspire and empower others to get outside and explore the natural beauty of the world in any way they can – whether on a months-long extended trip or even just a weekend getaway. We strive to help like-minded people have similar experiences by sharing our personal travel stories and creating the detailed and straightforward resources to help you replicate our trips while also making the experience your own. We’re proof that you don’t need a lot of money or fancy gear to have amazing experiences. You just need a sense of adventure and the determination to get yourself there.
Travel Experience
We have been traveling together since 2012 and in that time have explored over 10 countries and more than 15 U.S. States.
However, we’re not much into the travel counting game. We prefer to travel long and slow to truly experience an area and culture in depth.
To date, we have completed two major, multi-month trips through Europe and Southeast Asia, respectively. When we’re not exploring abroad, we prefer to travel around our home in the United States – usually to various state and national parks as well as historical monuments and iconic cities.
Our passion for adventure and nature have also led us to have some pretty amazing experiences. Some of our highlights include:
- Camping on the West Rim Trail in the backcountry of Zion National Park
- Spending a week skiing in Jackson Hole, Wyoming
- SCUBA diving with a whale shark in Thailand
- Canyoning and rappelling down waterfalls in Vietnam
- Ice-skating on Lake Louise in Banff National Park
- Exploring slot canyons and mountain biking through the desert on a road trip through Utah
- Walking on top of a glacier at the Columbia Icefields in Canada
- Conquering the mile-long Manitou Incline in Colorado Springs
- Section-hiking the Appalachian Trail through Great Smoky Mountain National Park
- Trekking through one of Cambodia’s most remote national parks
- Visiting the abandoned cities and villages inside the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone
What’s Next?
Like most stories, ours is still growing and changing. For the time being, we are back to planning local weekend excursions and road trips to national parks around the U.S. We’re pretty antsy to explore foreign lands and live out of a backpack again, which has been a great motivator to work hard and spend less.
